Royal Birth Tubs FAQ

Q: Can I get a refund?

A: Once the tub has been delivered, all rentals are final. If for some reason you change your mind before we have delivered the tub, you may request a 90% refund of your initial payment. We have to do it this way because as long as you have our tub, we can’t rent it to someone else.

Q: What if I need help setting up my tub when labor starts?

A: You will! You cannot do this alone once labor starts. And your midwife cannot do it either. She will be busy! You are strongly encouraged to designate a Tub Setup Officer for this critical task. Ideally, this person will be present when we deliver the tub (for the Royal Birth and Concierge Services), so we can show you and them how to set up the tub.

You are also encouraged to have a Backup Tub Setup Officer. If labor happens at an unexpected moment (doesn’t it always?) and your primary Officer is unavailable at that time, you will need a backup who has agreed to be “on call.” Make this person someone you trust to be reliable.

Q: Can Royal Birth Tubs be my Backup Tub Setup Officer?

A: If you purchase the Noble Birth Rental Service, no.

If you purchase the Royal Birth Signature Service, you can request us to be your backup for an additional $99 fee, which you would pay only if our help was needed.

If you purchase the customized Concierge Service, Royal Birth Tubs will be your backup at no extra charge, if it so pleases you to have us at your service.

Q: Do we call Royal Birth Tubs when labor starts so you can deliver our birth tub?

A: No. For concierge and Royal Birth services, we deliver your tub approximately 2 weeks before your due date. This is scheduled in advance. No other home birth tub service we know of offers this convenience. You don’t know when labor will begin. If baby decides to come early, we want your birth tub to be there!

For Noble Birth Rentals, you can come pick up the tub yourself up to 2 weeks prior to the due date, or pay a $50 delivery charge and we will bring it to you 2 weeks ahead of time.

Q: What if our baby starts to come more than 2 weeks early?

A: If your baby comes really early (prior to 2 weeks) – then yes, please call us and we will figure out how to proceed – assuming your midwife still believes a home birth is wise.

Q: My birth tub arrived damaged or is missing parts. What do I do?

A: This should NEVER happen with a Royal Birth Tub rental. We employ a triple-check process that virtually eliminates any possibility of missing or damaged items. First suggestion – perhaps an item fell out when you opened the bag. Look around the room for it.

However, if something really does appear to be missing or damaged, please call us and we will take care of it.

Note: Certain items, if damaged, require a replacement fee. Example: The heating element, which costs $350 to replace if broken. Please follow your Tub Setup Instructions carefully.

Q: Are your birth tubs heated?

A: Absolutely, your highness. Giving birth and going through labor in a non-heated tub would be most uncivil. And incredibly uncomfortable. Labor sometimes goes on for ten, twenty, thirty – even fifty hours in extreme cases! You will want warm water throughout your labor. Trust me! I’ve done it!

Even birth centers will empty and refill your tub multiple times to keep the water warm. While you’re waiting for the tub to refill, you’ll have to find other means to stay comfortable. With a heated home tub, you will be blissfully comfortable (relatively speaking) the entire time.

With a non-heated tub, such as an inflatable one that hopefully doesn’t spring a leak, you will be out in the cold. Literally.

Q: When should we start setting up our birth tub?

A: We will discuss this when we deliver your birth tub. The answer to this depends on several factors, beginning with the layout of your home.

Q: How can we know if a birth tub will fit in our home?

A: Get approximate dimensions of your preferred rooms, and then call us. We should be able to advise you over the phone. But Aqua Doula birth tubs fit comfortably in most rooms of a typical house, including smaller bedrooms. An 8×8 square foot area is more than enough room.
